Why Buy Galvanized
Why Galvanize?
What is galvanized steel?
Galvanized steel is raw steel product which has been coated in zinc. The hot-dipped galvanizing
process begins with dipping the entire trailer into an acid bath to remove all rust, oil, dirt, and grime,
removing all imperfections. From there it is dipped into a kettle of molten zinc. The zinc not only
coats the steel but actually metallurgically bonds with the steel to form layers of zinc-iron alloy. The
outer coating remains almost pure zinc. Because of the bonding with the steel, the galvanizing will not
blister or separate from the steel. Because the trailer is totally immersed in the zinc, all hard to reach
areas and sharp corners get coated. Tubing is coated both inside and out, so the tube doesn't begin to
rust from the inside.
Benefits of Galvanizing
1. Durability - Galvanizing is extremely durable because it bonds with the steel. Damage to one
area is contained and doesn't spread.
2. Longevity - Galvanized steel has a very long lifespan; 20 to 25 years in urban and coastal areas and
up to 50 years in rural areas.
3. Low Maintenance Cost - Unlike painting which requires periodic stripping the trailer,
sandblasting, priming and painting, galvanizing is virtually maintenance free.
4. Complete Coverage - Because the trailer is fully dipped in hot zinc every corner, recess, sharp
edge, metal fold, inside and outside of tubing is completely coated.
